Brooklyn resident Patrick Williams and Kareem Johnakin of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania have pleaded guilty to charges related to the burglaries of several Yonkers and New Rochelle businesses. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino Jr. said that Williams pleaded guilty on March 7, while Johnakin entered his plea this week as his trial was set to begin in Westchester County Court.
Scarpino said that Williams pleaded guilty to five counts of third-degree burglary, all felonies. He will be sentenced as a predicate felon on May 10. Johnakin pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree burglary. Both will face a term of up to seven years in prison on each of the burglary counts.
Beginning in May 2017, Williams and Johnakin broke into four food markets and a restaurant during early morning hours, Scarpino said. In four of the five break-ins, the two men pushed up the metal roll-down gates, and slid underneath them. When they allegedly broke into the restaurant, they smashed a glass door.
During their three-month run in 2017, the two men broke into:
- Yonkers Farm Market on Yonkers Avenue on May 12, when they took $4,700;
- Rainbow Fish Market on Main Street in New Rochelle on July 2, when they took $3,300;
- Green Dragon Restaurant on North Avenue in New Rochelle on July 6, when they took less than $1,000, and;
- Saw Mill Market on Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers on July 6, when they took $13,000.
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on May 10, while Johnakin will be sentenced on July 10.
